Shockwave is a highly effective and non-invasive therapy using state-of-the-art technology. The shockwave unit produces low energy acoustic pressure waves which are delivered via a handheld wand to a targeted area of the body producing a local tissue effect. Shockwave is approved by both Health Canada and the FDA.
Shockwave therapy promotes the body's natural healing abilities, reduces pain and restores function to injured and damaged tissues. Scientific evidence has shown Shockwave to be extremely effective with greatly reduced healing times as compared to surgery. Acupuncture is an ancient treatment art that originated in China over 5000 years ago. You should receive acupuncture from a licensed acupuncturist/medical practitioner. Acupuncture in a licensed setting is very safe, only single use,sterile needles are used. The needles are disposed of after use. Typically, about 3 to 15 needles are used during a treatment.
You may feel a mild prick when the needle is inserted. The needles are very fine and do not need to be inserted deeply to be effective. The needles may be warmed, twirled, or stimulated to enhance the treatment benefits. Acupuncture needles are usually left in for about 20 to 40 minutes. Most people find acupuncture to be a painless and positive experience.
Electrotherapy involves stimulating nerve fibers with small electrical currents which are delivered through pads adhered to the skin. Therapeutic ultrasound has been used since the 1940s. Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to deliver deep heat to the treated tissues. Ultrasound is applied using an ultrasound probe head that is placed in direct contact with your skin via a transmission coupling gel. The treatments may help reduce stiffness, spasm, swelling, and pain, increase circulation, and promote healing. Ultrasound therapy may be used alone or in conjunction with stretching, therapeutic massage, heat, or chiropractic manipulation. Ultrasound therapy is a painless procedure, and many people find it relaxing.
Your chiropractor will only expose the area of skin that is to be treated. If required, you will be provided with a hospital gown. Conduction gel will be applied to the treatment area. The ultrasound conduction wand will be placed on your skin and moved in a circular motion to deliver the ultrasound treatment.
Following ultrasound, your chiropractor may help you stretch your joints, or provide instructions for stretches or exercises to do at home.
